ITALIAN JAZZ DAYS
October 12th October 17th 2009

“ITALIAN JAZZ DAYS”, a series of 9 concerts of Italian jazz musicians, will take place in New York City, from October 12th to October 17th 2009. This event is co-produced by two institutions:  the Italian Cultural Institute, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The program is curated by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s programming director, Antonio Ciacca, and the artistic director of Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Todd Barkan. Nine concerts in two different locations: Italian Cultural Institute and Dizzy’s Coca Cola, will showcaase the best of today ‘s italian Jazz scene. The relationship between Italian immigrants and Jazz goes back to the beginning of the XX century. Nick La Rocca and his Italian American compatriots in New Orleans were the first musicians to record a “Jazz” record in 1916. The Original Dixie Jazz Band, the name of their ensamble, will inspire the first generation of Jazz Icons most notably Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. Today the tradition continue trough world class Jazz Artist like Joe Lovano, Joey DeFrancesco, George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, Pat Martino and many others.

Many wonderful Artists from both Italy and USA will participate in this event as performers and representatives of Italian jazz musicians.
